FAQ
How many Power Stones and Oni Stones are there?
Can I miss any stones?
Why do some guides say 54 Oni Stones, or 274 total collectibles?
This page lists every Power Stone and Oni Stone location in Onimusha: Way of the Sword — all 109 upgrade materials, area by area, with the side jobs, Chance Encounters, Mysteries of Kyoto and Oni Portals that hand them out. Fully upgrading every skill with them earns the Well-Rounded trophy, one of the two upgrade grinds in the Platinum roadmap.
What do Power Stones and Oni Stones each buy?
They are the two currencies of the skill trees, and they do not mix:
- Power Stones fund the basic and special skills — swordplay nodes such as Reflex Combo, Chain Issen and Deflect, plus utility purchases like Petrify tiers, Flat-Out Sprint, Items: Quick Use, Soul Absorption boosts and the two Charm Capacity upgrades. Early nodes cost 2 stones each; the later ones cost 3.
- Oni Stones fund the Oni abilities and weapon skills — Oni Vision: Treasures and Oni Strength tiers on the gauntlet side, and every armament’s skill rows: Two Celestials combo upgrades, Wind-Whipper power and range, Earth-Shakers charge levels, Firebird Flute shots, Flashing Void Break Issen, and Still Water’s golden-wave upgrades. Same price curve: 2 stones early, 3 later.
Most skill rows only go on sale after an Oni Portal is cleared — the first portal unlocks the 2-stone tier, the second and third unlock the 3-stone tiers — which is why the trophy guide routes stone hunting after the portals. For the weapons those Oni Stone rows upgrade, see the Oni Armaments locations page.
Can you miss any stones?
No — with one timing rule. Free roam stays open until the point of no return before the final mission, The Clash at Rendaino; keep a manual save at the prompt and you can clean up everything from there. Two Power Stones (#51–52) come from the final mission itself, past that cutoff.
Stones do not carry into New Game+ as items — but they spawn again, so a second playthrough tops up anything you skipped. Genma Notes and Lion Dogs, by contrast, do carry over; their pages are all 23 Genma Notes and all 36 Lion Dogs.

Why the stone counts differ between guides
Three numbers circulate. PowerPyx’s dedicated location pages enumerate 54 Power Stones and 55 Oni Stones (109 total), and its trophy roadmap agrees — so does this wiki’s own trophy guide. But PowerPyx’s overview checklist page currently prints 54 + 54 in one list and 53 + 54 in another while totaling all categories to 274, and G2A’s checklist also carries the 54-Oni-Stone figure. Community threads during launch week even cited “55 Power Stones” the other way round. The dedicated per-item pages are the only sources that actually enumerate every entry, so this page follows them: 54 + 55.
Well-Rounded and what to do next
Spending the full 109 on every skill node completes Well-Rounded, half of the upgrade-pair grind whose other half (50 crafting materials) is covered in the trophy guide’s collectibles table. While hunting stones you will rescue half of Kyoto anyway — the Genma Notes page and the Lion Dogs page cover the other two trophy-tracked collectible sets, and the walkthrough hub shows where each story phase gates which area.
