FAQ

What are Oni Armaments?
Oni Armaments are Way of the Sword's heavy-damage consumable weapons, fueled by blue souls absorbed by the Oni Gauntlet. They are one-shot panic buttons for tough fights, not permanent weapon slots.
How do you get more Oni Armaments?
By absorbing blue souls from defeated enemies, by finding them in chests, and by completing Lady Murasaki's side quests. The [soul farming guide](/guides/oni-vision-soul-farming/) covers the routes that pay off.
Should I use Oni Armaments on regular enemies?
No. They are designed for boss and miniboss fights. Wasting one on a regular Genma is a resource mistake — save them for the moments you actually need them.

Oni Armaments are Way of the Sword’s heavy-damage consumable weapons, fueled by blue souls absorbed through the Oni Gauntlet. They are one-shot panic buttons for tough fights, not permanent weapon slots. The strategic question is not “which armament does the most damage” but “which armament interrupts the encounter I’m stuck on.”

What Oni Armaments actually do

Unlike the katana (Musashi’s permanent weapon), Oni Armaments are consumables. You spend blue souls to activate them, they do a specific effect (usually heavy damage plus a stagger or interrupt), and then they’re gone. The cycle is:

  1. Farm blue souls from regular Genma.
  2. Spend them on an Oni Armament activation.
  3. Use the armament’s effect to break a boss’s momentum or finish a tough enemy.

Tier list principles

The best armaments are not the ones with the highest damage number. They are the ones that:

  • Interrupt unparryable attacks — boss moves that can’t be parried are the most common cause of wipes. An armament that creates an opening is worth more than one that does raw damage.
  • Break stamina gauges fast — bosses with high stamina benefit from armaments that drain multiple bars at once.
  • Cover multiple enemies — some armaments are AoE, which is huge when adds pile on during a boss fight.
SituationWhat to spend
Boss fight, normal difficultySave 2–3 armaments for the phase transition
Boss fight, hard difficultySave all armaments for the final phase
Miniboss1 armament, mid-fight, after the boss’s first major move
Regular enemiesDon’t use them — waste of resources

Top picks (pre-launch analysis)

These are the armaments Capcom has confirmed or strongly hinted at, ranked by their likely use cases once verified numbers come in post-launch:

S-tier (boss fight essentials)

  • Heavy Blade-type armaments — designed to interrupt boss combos. Use these against enemies with unparryable attack chains.
  • AoE blast-type armaments — break stamina gauges on multiple enemies at once. Strong against adds-heavy boss fights.

A-tier (specialized)

  • Ranged thrust armaments — useful for ranged enemies that punish melee approaches.
  • Fast activation armaments — low wind-up, good for panic-button usage.

B-tier (situational)

  • High-damage single-target armaments — strong raw damage but no utility. Use these on boss phase transitions where you just need the kill.

Where to find them

  • Soul farming: the soul farming guide covers the routes that pay off.
  • Chests: scattered through each act.
  • Lady Murasaki quests: the Lady Murasaki guide lists the quests that give armament rewards.
