The Ruckus at Rendaino is the first story chapter proper of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. It converts the Prologue’s tutorial grounds into a world: Musashi reaches Kyoto, meets the two characters who frame the whole campaign, closes his first Rift, and unlocks the game’s hub-and-shrine loop. This page follows the chapter beat by beat — the campaign context lives in the walkthrough hub, and the previous mission is the Prologue.
Welcome to Eastern Kyoto
The Prologue ends with the Gauntlet’s resident spirit — still unnamed, and asleep — telling Musashi to travel to Rokudo-chinnoji Temple in Kyoto and speak with Ono no Takamura. Arriving, Musashi finds a young girl fighting off a crowd of Genma at the temple gate: she holds her own until the fight distracts her at the wrong moment, and a large man wearing his own Oni Gauntlet steps in to save her.
That man is Takamura; the girl is his ward, Izumo no Okuni. With Okuni safe, Takamura hands the cleanup to the newcomer.
Defeat the Genma and seal the Rift
The first task is plain practice: kill the remaining Genma while Takamura watches. Focus on the Prologue kit — Parry, Dodge, and target swapping.
The moment the last Genma falls, a Rift tears open in the sky. Rifts are holes in reality through which Genma enter the world; killing the spawned enemies weakens them. Clear the wave, then hold absorb with the Gauntlet — exactly like absorbing souls — to consume the Rift and end the sequence.
Speak with Takamura: the gateway to Hell
Takamura can describe the Gauntlet but cannot wake the woman sleeping inside it; his advice is to keep killing Genma. As Musashi follows him through the shrine, Takamura dissolves into yellow dust and enters a well, and Musashi reluctantly follows him in.
Below lies the gateway to Hell, which Takamura is charged with protecting. Kyoto contains sanctuaries that shield the gateway — some now corrupted — and Musashi’s campaign task is set: clear the corruption so the gateway does not fall and unleash the Genma.
Speak with Okuni: Spirit Mirrors and the Hozuki Pouch
Back in the living world, Takamura’s first assignment is Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Before giving directions, he sends Musashi to Okuni, standing by a small shrine, for two unlocks that define the rest of the game:
- The Hozuki Pouch — a fruit-filled healing pouch, the game’s Estus Flask equivalent. Refill it at any Spirit Mirror or by harvesting Hozuki fruit from bushes in the world; excess fruit is banked automatically.
- Spirit Mirror fast travel — mirrors let you travel to any mirror you have unlocked. Use the shrine’s mirror to jump toward the next mission.
With that, the chapter ends and The Stage is Set at Kiyomizu begins.
