FAQ

Is the Oni Bow an Oni Armament?
Yes. The bow is handed over by the story rather than found in an optional chest, but it counts toward the Oni Armory trophy — which is why PowerPyx counts 7 armaments while some guides that exclude the automatic bow list 6.
Can I miss any Oni Armaments?
Five armaments sit in optional chests that are easy to walk past, but none are permanently missable — every area stays reachable via fast travel, and the only hard cutoff is the point of no return before the final mission.
Which armaments can I not miss at all?
Two: the Oni Bow, from a story-required chest in the Oni Refuge, and Wind-Whipper, the reward of the quest The Oni's Apprentice at the Practice Ground.

This page lists every Oni Armament location in Onimusha: Way of the Sword — all seven, in rough story order, with what each one does and how reliably you can get it. For which ones are worth maining, see the Oni Armaments tier list.

The Two Celestials

The baseline armament: a pair of daggers whose strikes pull extra Yellow Souls out of Genma — sustain that keeps you alive while you learn the system.

You get them during The Stage is Set at Kiyomizu, inside Kiyomizu-dera Temple. G2A describes the chest hanging from the threads of the second Thread Genma at the second Oni Gate — kill it and the chest drops; IGN and GamesRadar describe the same encounter as a spider-guarded chest at the end of the thread-tracing cave. Same fight, same chest.

Oni Bow

Long-range pressure with unlimited standard ammunition and a weak-point mechanic, earned from a story-required chest in the Oni Refuge — you cannot finish the game without it. One hundred bow headshots on the way also feed the Deadeye trophy covered in the trophy guide.

Wind-Whipper

A twin-bladed naginata built for crowds: its whirlwind staggers everything nearby, and near an open flame it turns into a firestorm with damage over time — IGN’s pick for clearing group encounters.

It is the reward for The Oni’s Apprentice — complete Ono Takamura’s deflect drill at the Practice Ground and open the chest after the sequence. GamesRadar and G2A both flag it as story-linked, so it cannot be skipped.

Earth-Shakers

Twin hammers that deal no health damage at all — instead they drain stamina and smash armor, which is exactly what sets up Break Issen finishers on bosses. The trade-off per G2A: the charge is slow and leaves you exposed, and uncharged swings lose most of their Break Damage.

The chest is in the Underground Laboratory, Underground Level 4, in the room past the fan puzzle — IGN describes the setup: shoot the four thread spools spinning the fans, then cross the fan wreckage. GamesRadar calls the same landmark the broken turbine room; either way it is the left-side room after the fans.

Firebird Flute

A flute that launches firebirds at up to three nearby enemies, staggering them — the ranged answer to Wind-Whipper’s melee crowd control, and GamesRadar’s comparison is a 17th-century hellfire missile.

During Shadows Fall progress, head to southeast Kyoto, directly south of the Gojo Street East Spirit Mirror — G2A and IGN both place the chest on the spot where a Rift previously stood. Missable during the quest, but the chest stays there for the rest of the game.

The Flashing Void

A lightning spear with the highest single-target burst in the set: enormous health damage — G2A notes it deletes common enemies outright and returns large Red Souls — but low Break Damage, so it complements rather than replaces Earth-Shakers.

On Mount Oe, in the Castle Courtyard, look for the small cave opening Musashi slides through off the main route — all three location guides call it the easiest armament to walk past, and the area remains revisitable.

Still Water

The quiet late-game pick: it empowers your sword and makes its attacks shed Purple Souls, which feed the Oni Awakening gauge, released as a golden wave. The final entry on most routes — and the one the fewest players find.

The chest sits in the northeast of the Arashiyama Swamp, down a small optional pathway. IGN calls it the most easily missed armament in the game.

Why some guides say 6

IGN and GamesRadar both publish six-armament lists. The gap is the Oni Bow: it is handed over by the story rather than discovered, so editorial location guides sometimes leave it out — but PowerPyx’s trophy tracking counts 7 for Oni Armory, and G2A’s FAQ states the bow counts explicitly. Plan for seven.

Oni Armory and what to do next

Opening all seven unlocks the Oni Armory trophy — one of the collectible trophies in the Platinum roadmap. For the hundred armament kills the Wielder of Oni Armaments trophy wants, and for which armaments to main against which boss, the tier list ranks them; the Oni Gauntlet lore page explains the gauntlet they all run through, and the boss list shows which fight to bring each one to.
