Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the sixth mainline Onimusha game and the franchise’s first new entry in twenty years. It releases September 4, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The game was announced at The Game Awards in December 2024 and greenlit internally at Capcom in early 2020. What is Way of the Sword about?

Way of the Sword is a standalone narrative set in Edo-period Kyoto, roughly 60 years after the events of Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. Capcom has confirmed it is separate from the Samanosuke / Jubei / Soki saga — new players can start here without spoilers. The protagonist is an Oni warrior wielding a katana and the new Break Issen parry system.

The setting borrows from real history: Edo-period Kyoto, 1603 onward. The antagonist is Sasaki Kojiro, the historical rival of Miyamoto Musashi, reimagined here as an Oni Gauntlet wielder. A recurring NPC, Lady Murasaki, gives the player side missions across the campaign.

The standard edition is $69.99 USD. Capcom has not announced a deluxe or collector’s edition at the time of writing — this page will be updated if a more expensive tier is confirmed.
