FAQ

How many trophies does Way of the Sword have?
52 offline trophies: 1 Platinum (Peerless), 2 Gold, 9 Silver and 40 Bronze, per PowerPyx's trophy guide. There are no online trophies.
How long does the Platinum take?
PowerPyx estimates 60-70 hours at roughly 6.5/10 difficulty, with a minimum of two playthroughs — one on Action, then a New Game+ run on Carnage.
Are any trophies missable?
None. The only point of no return is the final mission, The Clash At Rendaino, which warns you first; after the credits, selecting Continue puts you back before that mission for cleanup.
Do I have to beat the game on Carnage difficulty?
Yes. The trophy True Onimusha requires finishing the game on Carnage, the highest difficulty, which only unlocks after your first completion. Carnage disables action prompts entirely.

This is the trophy guide and Platinum roadmap for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. It covers the full 52-trophy list structure, the two-playthrough route to the Platinum, every collectible count, and the combat grinds — with nothing left missable.

The Platinum roadmap: five steps

PowerPyx’s roadmap splits the Platinum into five steps across two full playthroughs:

  1. Play the story on Action up to the final mission. Action is the medium difficulty — hard enough to learn the combat honestly, without Carnage’s removed action prompts. Stop before the final mission, The Clash At Rendaino.
  2. Clean up collectibles and upgrades in free-roam. Every collectible category, side activity and upgrade material is still reachable at this point. The counts are tabled below.
  3. Finish the story. The final mission ends with the three-phase fight against Minamoto no Yoshitsune (the trophy Truly, Thank You) — the last entry in the boss list.
  4. Start New Game+ on Carnage. Carnage only unlocks after your first completion, and True Onimusha demands a full clear on it. Consumables carry over into New Game+, so stock up before the second run.
  5. Clear Boss Rematch mode on every difficulty. The Glutton for Punishment trophy asks you to beat every Boss Rematch opponent at every difficulty setting — the longest single requirement in the list.

Why nothing is missable

The design safety net is the Continue menu. The only point of no return is the final mission, and the game warns you before it starts. Finish the story, and Continue drops you back into Kyoto just before that mission with the whole map still open — every side activity, chest and collectible remains reachable for post-game cleanup.

That is also why the roadmap parks cleanup before the finale on the first run: it is simply faster to mop up while the story is fresh than to reload the endgame state repeatedly.

The combat grind trophies

The bulk of the Bronze list is combat counters. None are hard per kill — the work is volume, so slot them into natural play from the first hour rather than farming them at the end:

TrophyRequirement
Brutalist50 Issen attacks
Flow State50 Chain Issen kills
Burning Blade50 kills in Blazing State
Oni’s Oni50 kills in Oni Awakened state
Stop Motion50 Reflex Combos
Wielder of Oni Armaments100 kills with Oni Armaments
Deadeye100 bow headshots
Helm Splitter100 shields or armor pieces broken
Pinch Hitter50 deflected projectiles
Untouchable50 Grab Reversals
Coming Through!50 guard breaks
Winning Is What Matters50 environmental attacks
Silent Violence20 assassinations
Citizen SaviorRescue 30 townspeople

The Issen explainer covers the parry timing that feeds Brutalist and Flow State, and the soul farming guide covers the Red Soul economy that funds your upgrades along the way.

The collectible trophies

Seven collectible categories and two upgrade-material sets feed ten trophies:

Mysteries of Kyoto8Demystified
Chance Encounters18No Job Too Small
Lion Dogs36For the Love of Dog
Oni Armaments7Oni Armory
Hozuki Pouches9Medical Marvel
Charms15Charmed Life
Genma Notes23Genma-ologist
Power Stones + Oni Stones54 + 55Well-Rounded (all skill upgrades)
Fine Silk Cloths + Tamahagane25 + 25Dressed to Kill (all equipment maxed)

For the two biggest weapon-adjacent categories, this wiki has dedicated pages: all seven Oni Armaments and where to find them, and the charms guide covering all 15 charm sources and how upgrading works. The three collectible-sweep categories have their own pages too: all 109 Power and Oni Stones, all 23 Genma Notes and all 36 Lion Dogs.

The hardest trophies

  • Glutton for Punishment — every Boss Rematch opponent on every difficulty. The longest grind in the game.
  • True Onimusha — a full Carnage clear. Carnage turns off action prompts, so PowerPyx recommends learning the fights on Action first.
  • Truly, Thank You — the three-phase final boss, Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
  • Well-Rounded / Dressed to Kill — every skill and every piece of equipment fully upgraded, which is where the 109 Power/Oni Stones and 50 crafting materials above go.

Where to go next

For the fights themselves, start with the boss list. For the systems the grinds run on, see the Issen and Break Issen explainer and the walkthrough hub.
